My Story

My name is Caroline McCarthy. I am the eldest daughter in my family, in both of my families. I act like a normal 16 year old girl; I cry, I have friends, I laugh. Only I lack on thing that many people have; Confidence. I may look and act like everyone, but inside I am so shy its painful. I use to talk very loud, until my best friend told me I was too loud. I have a speech impediment, so I already was shy when I spoke. Now when I voice my opinion, I check how loud my volume is. Recently I started to play volleyball for my High School. A girl on the team told me I sounded like Forest Gump. I was truly upset about that, because my friends agreed I did too. Soon after, I was kicked off the team. Another confidence knock gone. Later that night after I found out about my volleyball team, I found out about my parents getting a Divorce; because of me. I am not a saint and I have done things that I’m not proud of. By then I barely had any confidence left in my soul. I was going back in to that shell I had tired to break free of. Thats when I began to think about running away or sucide. I realize how stupid it would be to do any of this because of my sister. I would leave her. I love her too much. Then came my father’s girlfriend’s kids. 3 beautiful blondes; 1 girl and 2 boys. Amazing in school, sports, and everything else. I’m an A, B, C, student where they were an straight A student. The eldest was to take the ACT in the summer and was in 7th grade. I, a 10th grader, had yet to think that far. I told my father how I was feeling about the whole thing. He told me “you can’t overcome your genetic makeup”. Now I have nothing but lies of confidence left. Well that’s my story. I don’t want pity or anything. I just wanted people who lack the same thing as me to know that they aren’t the only one out there.
